Marvel Debuts First 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Poster

Sequel to 2011 action flick hits theaters in 2014

We're halfway through 2013's blockbuster season and Marvel has already begun stoking the fire for next year. Today, they revealed the first poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier on their Pinterest page.

The image shows Captain America's iconic shield battered and scraped, hinting at the darker themes of the sequel. It will find Chris Evans' super-soldier Steve Rogers not only figuring out how to navigate contemporary American life but also facing off against the titular Winter Soldier, an assassin who happens to be his brainwashed best friend.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier follows up last summer's The Avengers as well as 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and will open in theaters on April 4th, 2014. As Entertainment Weekly reports, Marvel Studios' president of production, Kevin Feige, has described the new movie as an homage to paranoid thrillers of the 1970s.

While principal shooting is still underway, there's a good chance we'll learn more about the film in the coming weeks, especially when Marvel highlights its upcoming projects at this year's Comic-Con.
