Only Connect: Survey Says Business Travelers Can't Do Without WiFi

An InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) survey reveals that cites the biggest obstacle to business travelers is not being able to connect online with friends and family while on the road. The research, which polled 1,000 business travelers, found that 48 percent of respondents said that no Internet service was their biggest concern. That outranked noisy locations (41 percent) and cumbersome transportation issues (38 percent).

Sixty-two percent of respondents said Internet connectivity was more important than in-room television a television (20 percent), mini-fridge (5 percent), landline phone (4 percent), bathtub (3 percent) and mini bar (1 percent).

Going online upon arrival at a hotel takes priority (25 percent), above unpacking (20 percent), taking a shower (10 percent) or turning on the television (6 percent.)

More than half (55 percent) of travelers say that they would prefer to communicate with people back home over the Internet rather than using the phone.

Nearly half of those surveyed (47 percent) said going online to communicate with friends and family was the bet way to relieve stress. Eighty-three percent said complimentary Internet service was extremely important to them.
