Sceptre Adding More Rail Into Itineraries

Sceptre Adding More Rail Into Itineraries

Increasingly, tour operators are looking to rail to solve logistical problems. Chris Accomando, the President of Sceptre Tours is reporting a huge increase in rail travel and he is beginning to incorporate rail into the company's Europe programs. Sceptre first dabbled with rail in Ireland where it was used as a way to offer independent travel to clients who felt insecure about driving on the other or left side of the road. Agents, says Accomando, were asking for a middle way between escorted group and self-drive programs. Earlier this year the company launched a first class Irish rail vacation that also employs private cars with drivers.

"Sales for our Ireland rail product just took off," noted Mr. Accomando. "The fact that we were able to bridge the gap between a fully escorted motor coach tour and a self-drive vacation was unbelievably appealing to agents and their clients. As a result, we also expanded our rail product in Italy and it has grown so tremendously that we have increased available capacity for both Ireland and Italy for the remainder of 2013."
