Sweden finds arsenic in Chinese herbal remedy - DigitalJournal.com

Stockholm - A chinese herbal remedy has posed a very serious health threat as workers in Sweden's National Food Agency have found arsenic in it.
The popular herbal remedy is called Niu-Huang Chieh-tu-pien and is used to treat ailments and issues such as toothaches, skin conditions, fevers in infants, and anorexia, The Local reports. The product is also sold under the Indian names Divya Kaishore Guggul and Chandraprabha Vati. The recommended daily dose provides a daily amount of inorganic arsenic. In a worst case scenario this equals around half a lethal dose of arsenic, Leif Busk, a toxicologist at Sweden's Food Agency says. "Consequently, anyone who eats it can be very seriously affected," Busk said. He also commented on how frightening it was that such a hazardous product was actually being sold. The product has been removed from shelves at stores in Stockholm, but it may still be sold at stores in other Swedish cities, The Raw Story reports. The product can also be bought on the internet. Local authorities in Stockholm have issued a warning to other EU countries through an EU alert system.
